Every inbox methodology I tried failed the same way: it required daily maintenance, and the day I skipped it was the day it collapsed.

The rule

Anything addressed to a list, an alias, or more than four people skips the inbox entirely. Not archived — filed, unread, into one folder I read once a day.

It removed about seventy percent of arriving mail and needed no discipline at all, which is the only reason it survived.
